Windows 7 Continues to Dominate, While Windows 8.1 Takes Ground from XP

It’s not very surprising that Windows 7 continues to dominate the market share of the Windows ecosystem worldwide.

In fact, according to the latest data from NetMarketShare, Windows 7 has over 53.71% marketshare, which is actually up from the 53.05 percent it held in October and quite an increase over the 47.46 percent it held at the beginning of this year.

Meanwhile, fans of Microsoft’s new “Metro/Modern” style of design will be happy to know that the combined force of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is now at 18.65 percent up from the 16.70 percent it had last month and the 10.56 it held in January.

The growth in Windows 8.0 and 8.1 occurred largely at the expense of Windows XP, which saw a sizable decrease from 17.18 percent last month to 13.57 percent this month. This is in stark contrast to January for the aging OS, which had managed to hold 29.30 percent market share, and that’s even during the dominant reign of Windows 7.
