Office 365 Video: Microsoft Embraces Video with Office 365’s NextGen Portals

Microsoft is expanding on the Portals portfolio with the new Office 365 Video, the first of many NextGen Portals landing in Office 365.

Microsoft says it will initially roll out to Office 365 First Release customers, but that it expects to expand worldwide to all Office 365 customers by early 2015.

Office 365 Video is build around four core elements, detailed on Microsoft’s blog:

  • Simplicity
  • Discoverability and share’ability
  • mobile
  • built-in security and easy to manage

Video is one of the most powerful mediums of communication. Office 365 Video provides organizations with a secure, company-wide destination for posting, sharing and discovering video content. From onboarding new employees, to distributing a CEO message company wide, to community contributions, video is now a first-class citizen to power and enrich your internal communications.

Microsoft says it designed Office 365 Video to “meet the requirements of IT and win the hearts and minds of users.” The service is powered by Azure Media Service and users could experience benefits such as adaptive smooth streaming technology optimizing video playback for the device it’s being viewed on. Office 365 Video also leverages Yammer and the Office Graph to deliver a “social, personalized experience within Office 365.”

Microsoft is already working on what is coming next to Office 365 Video, and says it will roll out updates to the service automatically when the new features are ready.
